A crawlspace’s insulation is crucial for air sealing and climate control in the home. Only high-quality, properly installed insulation can create the ideal thermal envelope. For this project, we helped the homeowner abide by the latest California Building Energy Efficiency standards in Title 24. We chose insulation that met the required R-value of 19. After cleaning the crawlspace and installing the batts insulation, we also placed insulating material in the subfloor per our customer’s special request.
The City of Berkeley requires a building permit for insulation installation with every project except for blown-in wall insulation. We made sure to acquire this permit that covers the cost of inspection and ensures the evaluation follows the manufacturer’s specifications or those set by the North American Insulation Manufacturer’s Association (NAIMA).
