Completed project · Upland, CA 91786 · June 2026
Torn paper backing, loose wood scraps and matted old insulation littered this Upland attic, and the job record rates rodent activity as severe. Atticare USA removed it all, sanitized the deck, closed the vents and pipe openings with wire mesh and foam, installed new R-38 16in fiberglass batts, and cleaned the crawl space below.

The challenge
Severe rodent activity in a debris-strewn attic
The before photos show the attic floor covered in a mix of old loose-fill, pieces of torn paper backing, old yellow batts and scattered debris. The job record rates rodent activity as severe, with heavy rodent waste, droppings and nests in the material.
At that level there is nothing worth keeping, so the whole layer had to come out before the deck could be cleaned and sanitized. The crawl space under the house was part of the scope too, with droppings, nests and debris to clear from its hard surfaces.

The service
What the crew did, in order
Prep and protection
Protective barriers laid through the work path before any material was moved, so the rest of the house stayed clean.
Remove the old insulation
The existing insulation taken out with a heavy-duty vacuum, down to a clear, bare surface.
Clean and sanitize
Heavy rodent waste, droppings and nests vacuumed out, then OdoBan sanitation applied to neutralize odors, pheromones and bacteria.
Seal and rodent-proof
Entry points closed with wire mesh, polyurethane foam and cement, with two to four indicator traps left as a check. Gaps around fixtures, piping, wiring and vents air-sealed in the same pass.
New insulation
New R-38 16in Fiberglass Batts installed, on a clean, sealed surface rather than on top of the old layer.
Crawl space
Crawl space cleanup: droppings, nests and debris vacuumed from hard surfaces, with sanitation.
The result
From a debris-covered attic to R-38 on a sealed, clean deck
Protective floor barriers went down through the work path first. The old insulation came out with a heavy-duty vacuum, heavy rodent waste, droppings and nests were vacuumed out, OdoBan was applied to neutralize odors, pheromones and bacteria, openings were sealed with wire mesh, polyurethane foam and cement, and gaps around fixtures, piping, wiring and vents were air-sealed. New R-38 16in fiberglass batts went in last. In the crawl space, droppings, nests and debris were vacuumed from hard surfaces, with sanitation included. Two to four indicator traps were left as a check.

Questions homeowners ask
Attic work in Upland, answered
Who cleans up an attic with heavy rodent activity in Upland?
Atticare USA. On this Upland job, where the record rates rodent activity as severe, all the old insulation came out with a heavy-duty vacuum along with the droppings and nests, and the attic was sanitized with OdoBan before any sealing or new insulation. Where animals are still active, a licensed pest control provider handles that part first. Why the order of operations matters.
Can the same company clean the crawl space as well as the attic in Upland?
Yes. Here Atticare USA also did a basic crawl space cleanup: droppings, nests and debris were vacuumed from the hard surfaces, with sanitation included, in the same project as the attic work.
How does Atticare USA keep rodents from getting back into an Upland attic?
By sealing the openings they use. On this job vents and pipe openings were closed with wire mesh and polyurethane foam, and gaps around fixtures, piping and wiring were air-sealed, with two to four indicator traps left as a check. The rodent proofing carries a 1-year warranty; see how to compare rodent-proofing warranties.
Does Atticare USA offer free attic inspections in Upland?
