Flex ducts and wiring crossed most of this 400 sq ft Torrance attic, and the old yellow batts under them had been pulled apart and left in loose piles. The challenge
Torn-up batts under a crowded duct run
The old yellow fiberglass batts no longer lay flat between the joists. Across the attic they were torn, bunched up and pushed aside, leaving bare sections next to thick clumps.
With ducts and wiring running over most of the floor, the only way to fix the layer properly was to take it all out, clean the deck underneath, and seal the openings before new batts went back in.

Remove the old insulation
The existing insulation taken out with a heavy-duty vacuum across 400 sq ft, down to a clear, bare surface.
Clean and sanitize
Debris vacuumed from hard surfaces, then OdoBan sanitation applied to neutralize odors and bacteria.
Seal and rodent-proof
Entry points closed with wire mesh, polyurethane foam and cement, with two to four indicator traps left as a check. Gaps around fixtures, piping, wiring and vents air-sealed in the same pass.
New insulation
New R-38 16in Fiberglass Batts installed across 400 sq ft, on a clean, sealed surface rather than on top of the old layer.

The attic finished with the old batts removed, the deck cleaned and treated with OdoBan, a vent screened with wire mesh, gaps around fixtures, piping, wiring and vents air-sealed, and new R-38 16in fiberglass batts laid in around the ducts.
