Three spaces, one project. This San Jose home got new insulation in 912 sq ft of attic, 201 sq ft of walls and 1,008 sq ft of crawl space, after the crew cleared out the old material and moderate rodent contamination and sealed the gaps the animals had been using.

The challenge
Moderate rodent activity above and below the house
The job record notes moderate rodent activity, with waste, droppings and nests in the old insulation. The work covered the attic floor, the attic walls and the crawl space, so the contamination had to be dealt with in every part of it.
Rebuilding one space and leaving another would have left a gap in the house. The job took the whole envelope in one go: clean and sanitize, seal, then insulate.
The service
What the crew did, in order
Prep and protection
Floor protection and dust barriers set at the access point before any material was moved, so the rest of the house stayed clean.
Remove the old insulation
The existing insulation taken out with a heavy-duty vacuum, down to a clear, bare surface.
Clean and sanitize
Rodent waste, droppings and nests vacuumed out, then OdoBan sanitation applied to neutralize odors, pheromones and bacteria.
Seal and rodent-proof
Entry points closed with wire mesh, polyurethane foam and cement, with two to four indicator traps left as a check. Gaps around fixtures, piping, wiring and vents air-sealed in the same pass.
New insulation
New R-38 24in Fiberglass Batts in the attic and R-19 16in faced in the crawl space installed, on a clean, sealed surface rather than on top of the old layer.
Crawl space
Crawl space cleaned and insulated to the same standard as the attic.
The result
Attic, walls and crawl space, rebuilt together
The old insulation came out with a heavy-duty vacuum, droppings and nests were vacuumed out, OdoBan was applied, openings were sealed with wire mesh, polyurethane foam and cement, pipe and wiring penetrations were air-sealed, and new R-38 24in batts went into the attic with R-19 16in faced batts under the floor.
