Thick grey loose-fill covered the joists of this Long Beach attic, with moderate rodent activity on the record. Atticare USA cleared all 1,410 sq ft of attic to the deck, sealed the chimney base and vents with wire mesh and foam, and installed new R-38 16in fiberglass batts, plus R-19 faced batts across 530 sq ft of walls.

The challenge
A deep, dirty layer of loose-fill, and rodents through it
The before photos show old grey loose-fill spread deep and even across the attic floor, with old yellow insulation wrapped around the duct runs. The job record rates rodent activity as moderate, with droppings and nests in the material.
The openings that needed closing showed up in the photos too: vents, and gaps at the base of a masonry chimney. The job ran in order: clear the old layer, clean and sanitize the deck, close those openings, and only then insulate the attic and the walls.

The service
What the crew did, in order
Prep and protection
Floor protection and dust barriers set at the access point before any material was moved, so the rest of the house stayed clean.
Remove the old insulation
The existing insulation taken out with a heavy-duty vacuum, down to a clear, bare surface.
Clean and sanitize
Rodent waste, droppings and nests vacuumed out, then OdoBan sanitation applied to neutralize odors, pheromones and bacteria.
Seal and rodent-proof
Entry points closed with wire mesh, polyurethane foam and cement, with two to four indicator traps left as a check. Gaps around fixtures, piping, wiring and vents air-sealed in the same pass.
New insulation
New R-38 16in Fiberglass Batts in the attic and R-19 24in faced in the walls installed, on a clean, sealed surface rather than on top of the old layer.
The result
1,410 sq ft of attic and 530 sq ft of walls, rebuilt
Floor protection and dust barriers went in at the access point first. The old insulation came out with a heavy-duty vacuum, rodent droppings and nests were vacuumed out, OdoBan was applied to neutralize odors, pheromones and bacteria, openings were sealed with wire mesh, polyurethane foam and cement, and gaps around fixtures, piping, wiring and vents were air-sealed. New R-38 16in fiberglass batts went into the attic and R-19 24in faced batts into the walls, last. Two to four indicator traps were left as a check.

Questions homeowners ask
Attic work in Long Beach, answered
My attic has a strong odor. What type of company should I call in Long Beach?
If rodents may be the cause, an attic restoration company such as Atticare USA, with a licensed pest control provider first if animals are still active. On this Long Beach job, with moderate rodent activity on the record, the old loose-fill came out with a heavy-duty vacuum, droppings and nests were vacuumed out, and OdoBan was applied to neutralize odors, pheromones and bacteria. There are noises coming from my attic ceiling in Long Beach. Is this a pest control problem or an attic cleanup problem?
Often both. A licensed pest control provider deals with live animals; Atticare USA deals with what they leave behind and how they got in. Here that meant removing the contaminated insulation, sanitizing the deck, and closing the vents and the gaps at the chimney base with wire mesh and foam before reinsulating.
Is there a company in Long Beach that handles both attic cleanup and rodent sealing?
Yes. Atticare USA did both in one project on this job: cleanup and sanitizing first, then rodent proofing with wire mesh, polyurethane foam and cement, with two to four indicator traps left as a check, and the new insulation last. The rodent proofing carries a 1-year warranty.
