Completed project · Long Beach, CA 90805 · April 2026
In April 2026 the crew opened this Long Beach attic and found old loose-fill packed down into a grey, uneven blanket with rodent droppings on top. 1,155 sq ft came out, the attic was cleaned and sanitized, openings were sealed, and new pink R-38 16in batts went in wall to wall.

The challenge
Grey, packed-down loose-fill with droppings on top
The existing insulation had compressed into a dense, dusty layer, and the inspection photos show droppings sitting on the surface. In a Long Beach attic that gets hot every summer, that layer was doing little for the rooms below.
The fix was the full sequence, in order: take the old material out, clean and sanitize the deck, close the entry points, then insulate.

The service
What the crew did, in order
Prep and protection
Protective floor barriers set through the work path before any material was moved, so the rest of the house stayed clean.
Remove the old insulation
The existing insulation taken out with a heavy-duty vacuum across 1,155 sq ft, down to bare joists and a clear deck.
Clean and sanitize
Droppings, nests and debris vacuumed out, then OdoBan sanitation applied to neutralize odors and bacteria.
Seal and rodent-proof
Entry points closed with wire mesh, polyurethane foam and cement, with two to four indicator traps left as a check. Gaps around fixtures, piping, wiring and vents air-sealed in the same pass.
New insulation
New R-38 16in Fiberglass Batts installed across 1,155 sq ft, on a clean, sealed deck rather than on top of the old layer.
The result
1,155 sq ft of Long Beach attic, cleaned and rebuilt
The attic finished with the old loose-fill removed, the deck cleaned and treated with OdoBan, entry points sealed with wire mesh, foam and cement, air sealing around fixtures and wiring, and new R-38 16in fiberglass batts across all 1,155 sq ft.
