The challenge
Loose-fill, debris and torn batts over a plank deck
The before photos show two layers of old material: grey loose-fill spread across the attic floor with bits of debris through it, and older faced batts that had torn and broken up.
Adding new insulation over that would have buried the debris and left the gaps in the plank deck open. So the job started with a full removal, which gave the crew a bare deck to clean, sanitize and seal before anything new went down.

Debris vacuumed from hard surfaces, then OdoBan sanitation applied to neutralize odors and bacteria.
Seal and rodent-proof
Entry points closed with wire mesh, polyurethane foam and cement, with two to four indicator traps left as a check. Gaps around fixtures, piping, wiring and vents air-sealed in the same pass.
New insulation
New R-38 24in Fiberglass Batts installed across 816 sq ft, on a clean, sealed surface rather than on top of the old layer.
