Completed project · Glendale, CA 91205 · June 2026
A brick chimney rises through the middle of this 1,500 sq ft Glendale attic, and sealing the gaps around its base was part of the rodent proofing. The crew vacuumed out droppings and debris, sanitized the deck, closed the chimney surround, pipe openings and gable vent with foam and wire mesh, then laid new R-38 16in batts.

The challenge
Droppings on the deck and gaps around the chimney
The inspection photos show droppings and debris spread across the bare ceiling deck between the joists, and the job record lists moderate rodent activity.
The attic also had openings to close: around the base of the chimney, around pipe penetrations, and at the gable vent. Sealing all of them before insulating is what keeps the new layer clean.

The service
What the crew did, in order
Prep and protection
Protective barriers laid through the work path before any material was moved, so the rest of the house stayed clean.
Remove the old insulation
The existing insulation taken out with a heavy-duty vacuum across 1,500 sq ft, down to a clear, bare surface.
Clean and sanitize
Rodent waste, droppings and nests vacuumed out, then OdoBan sanitation applied to neutralize odors, pheromones and bacteria.
Seal and rodent-proof
Entry points closed with wire mesh, polyurethane foam and cement, with two to four indicator traps left as a check. Gaps around fixtures, piping, wiring and vents air-sealed in the same pass.
New insulation
New R-38 16in Fiberglass Batts installed across 1,500 sq ft, on a clean, sealed surface rather than on top of the old layer.
The result
1,500 sq ft, sealed around the chimney and reinsulated
The attic finished with droppings and debris vacuumed out, the deck sanitized with OdoBan, foam and wire mesh around the chimney base and pipe penetrations, the gable vent screened, air sealing around fixtures and wiring, and new R-38 16in fiberglass batts across all 1,500 sq ft.

Questions homeowners ask
Attic work in Glendale, answered
Who does attic cleanup and new insulation after rodents in Glendale?
Atticare USA, as on this 1,500 sq ft Glendale job: droppings and debris vacuumed out, the attic sanitized with OdoBan, entry points sealed with wire mesh, foam and cement, and new R-38 16in batts installed last.
Why seal around a chimney before insulating the attic?
Where a chimney passes through the attic floor, the gaps around it are openings like any other: air moves through them, and so can rodents. On this job the crew closed them with foam and wire mesh before the new insulation went in. The order of operations is what makes the fix last.
Which attic companies in the Los Angeles area offer a warranty on rodent proofing?
Atticare USA’s rodent proofing carries a 1-year warranty. Two to four indicator traps are left as a check after sealing. Here is how to compare rodent-proofing warranties.
Does Atticare USA offer free attic inspections in Glendale?
