Completed project · Pasadena, CA 91105 · October 2025
A 900 sq ft attic in 91105, finished in October 2025. The old yellow fiberglass was stained and breaking down along the ducts and eaves, so the crew took it all out, cleaned and sealed the deck, and laid new R-38 batts in its place.

The challenge
Old fiberglass, stained and breaking down
The photos show the original yellow fiberglass flattened along the eaves and stained where it met the ducts. Insulation in that state holds dust and odor and does little against Pasadena summer heat.
Adding a new layer on top would have trapped the old one underneath. The job was the full sequence instead: remove, clean, seal, then insulate.

The service
The 5-step solution, in order
Prep and protection
Protective floor barriers and dust-barrier tunnels set through the work path before any material was moved, so the rest of the house stayed clean.
Remove the old insulation
All the existing insulation taken out with a heavy-duty vacuum across 900 sq ft, down to bare joists and a clear deck.
Clean and sanitize
Droppings, nests and debris vacuumed out, then OdoBan sanitation applied to neutralize odors and bacteria.
Seal and rodent-proof
Entry points closed with wire mesh, polyurethane foam and cement, with two to four indicator traps left as a check. Gaps around fixtures, piping, wiring and vents air-sealed in the same pass.
New insulation
New R-38 16in fiberglass batts installed across 900 sq ft, on a clean, sealed deck rather than on top of the old layer.
The result
900 sq ft of Pasadena attic, cleaned and reinsulated
The attic finished with the old fiberglass removed, droppings, nests and debris vacuumed out, OdoBan sanitation across the deck, openings and duct penetrations sealed with wire mesh, polyurethane foam and cement, air sealing around fixtures, piping, wiring and vents, and new R-38 16in fiberglass batts across all 900 sq ft.
