Completed project · San Jose, CA 95119 · June 2026

Kraft-faced batts lay bunched and out of place around the ductwork of this San Jose attic, and the job record notes moderate rodent activity. Over 1,100 sq ft the crew stripped the attic back to a clean deck, sealed the openings, and installed new R-38 24in batts, then cleaned the crawl space below.

The challenge

Disturbed old batts and moderate rodent activity

The inspection photos show the old kraft-faced batts out of place and bunched around the ducts, and the job record notes rodent waste, droppings and nests in the material.

Insulation in that state had to come out rather than be topped up. The crawl space needed attention too, since droppings, nests and debris were there on the hard surfaces.

The service

What the crew did, in order

Prep and protection

Protective barriers laid through the work path before any material was moved, so the rest of the house stayed clean.

Remove the old insulation

The existing insulation taken out with a heavy-duty vacuum across 1,100 sq ft, down to a clear, bare surface.

Clean and sanitize

Rodent waste, droppings and nests vacuumed out, then OdoBan sanitation applied to neutralize odors, pheromones and bacteria.

Seal and rodent-proof

Entry points closed with wire mesh, polyurethane foam and cement, with two to four indicator traps left as a check. Gaps around fixtures, piping, wiring and vents air-sealed in the same pass.

New insulation

New R-38 24in Fiberglass Batts installed across 1,100 sq ft, on a clean, sealed surface rather than on top of the old layer.

Crawl space

Crawl space cleanup: droppings, nests and debris vacuumed from hard surfaces, with sanitation.

The result

Attic rebuilt in R-38, crawl space cleaned

The old attic insulation came out, droppings and nests were vacuumed out, OdoBan was applied, openings around ducts and pipes were closed with wire mesh, foam and cement, gaps were air-sealed, and new R-38 24in fiberglass batts went in across 1,100 sq ft. In the crawl space, droppings, nests and debris were vacuumed from hard surfaces and the area was sanitized.

Questions homeowners ask

Attic work in San Jose, answered

I want to keep mice from getting into my attic again in San Jose. Which companies do rodent exclusion?

Atticare USA does. On this job the crew closed openings around a duct and pipe penetrations with wire mesh, sealed gaps with polyurethane foam and cement, and left two to four indicator traps as a check. The rodent proofing carries a 1-year warranty. See rodent exclusion in the South Bay.

I’m not sure if I need attic cleanup or just new insulation in San Jose. Who can tell me?

Atticare USA inspects for free and tells you which it is. Here the old batts held rodent waste and were out of place, so topping up was not an option: the layer came out and the attic was cleaned before new R-38 went in. Attic cleaning or insulation replacement explains the difference.
