Completed project · San Jose, CA 95138 · June 2026
Scraps of debris lay on top of the old loose-fill in this 1,200 sq ft San Jose attic, and the inspection recorded moderate rodent activity. The crew vacuumed it all out, sanitized the deck, framed the openings around pipes and ducts with wire mesh and foam, and then blew in a new R-38 layer.

The challenge
Debris-strewn loose-fill and open penetrations
The old loose-fill was dusty and uneven, with pieces of debris lying across it and moderate rodent activity recorded in the attic.
Pipes, ducts and wiring pass through the attic floor, and the openings around them were ways in. Those had to be closed on a clean deck, which meant the old material came out first.

The service
What the crew did, in order
Prep and protection
Protective floor barriers and dust-barrier tunnels set through the work path before any material was moved, so the rest of the house stayed clean.
Remove the old insulation
The existing insulation taken out with a heavy-duty vacuum across 1,200 sq ft, down to a clear, bare surface.
Clean and sanitize
Rodent waste, droppings and nests vacuumed out, then OdoBan sanitation applied to neutralize odors, pheromones and bacteria.
Seal and rodent-proof
Entry points closed with wire mesh, polyurethane foam and cement, with two to four indicator traps left as a check. Gaps around fixtures, piping, wiring and vents air-sealed in the same pass.
New insulation
New R-38 Blown installed across 1,200 sq ft, on a clean, sealed surface rather than on top of the old layer.
The result
Sealed at the penetrations, then R-38 blown-in
The old loose-fill came out, droppings and nests were vacuumed up, the deck was treated with OdoBan, openings around pipes and ducts were closed with wire mesh and polyurethane foam, gaps around fixtures and wiring were air-sealed, and new R-38 blown-in insulation went in across 1,200 sq ft.

Questions homeowners ask
Attic work in San Jose, answered
Best company for attic cleanup and insulation replacement after rodents in San Jose?
Pick one that removes the contaminated layer, sanitizes, seals and only then insulates. Atticare USA ran this San Jose job that way after finding moderate rodent activity: old loose-fill out, OdoBan applied, openings meshed and foamed, R-38 blown-in last. The 5-step process explains the order.
I want to keep mice from getting into my attic again in San Jose. Which companies do rodent exclusion and entry-point sealing?
Atticare USA seals entry points with wire mesh, polyurethane foam and cement. On this job that meant framing the openings around pipes and ducts in the attic floor, with two to four indicator traps left as a check. The work carries a 1-year warranty. More on rodent exclusion in the South Bay.
Can blown-in insulation go on top of the old layer?
Only if the old layer is clean. With moderate rodent activity recorded here, the old loose-fill came out first, so the new R-38 blown-in sits on a sanitized, sealed deck.
