Attic Insulation Replacement & Rodent Proofing in Santa Clara, CA

Completed project · Santa Clara, CA 95054 · November 2025

Wire mesh now runs along the top plates of this Santa Clara attic, foamed in around the pipes and wiring that pass through them. Before that, Atticare USA cleared the old yellow insulation from all 900 sq ft and sanitized the deck. New R-49 batts went in last, over the sealed plates.

The challenge

Old yellow insulation and open gaps along the framing

The before photos show old yellow fiberglass lying between the framing around the duct runs, and open gaps where the framing meets at the corners. The job record lists rodent waste, droppings and nests among the material to clear, without recording how much activity was found.

Clearing the attic to the deck first gave the crew room to clean and sanitize, then close the gaps along the top plates and corners with wire mesh and foam before the new insulation covered the framing again.

The service

What the crew did, in order

Prep and protection

Protective barriers laid through the work path before any material was moved, so the rest of the house stayed clean.

Remove the old insulation

The existing insulation taken out with a heavy-duty vacuum across 900 sq ft, down to a clear, bare surface.

Clean and sanitize

Debris vacuumed from hard surfaces, then OdoBan sanitation applied to neutralize odors and bacteria.

Seal and rodent-proof

Entry points closed with wire mesh, polyurethane foam and cement, with two to four indicator traps left as a check. Gaps around fixtures, piping, wiring and vents air-sealed in the same pass.

New insulation

New R-49 Batts installed across 900 sq ft, on a clean, sealed surface rather than on top of the old layer.

The result

900 sq ft, sealed at the plates and rebuilt in R-49

Protective barriers went down through the work path before any material was moved. The old insulation came out with a heavy-duty vacuum, rodent waste, droppings and nests were vacuumed out, OdoBan was applied to neutralize odors, pheromones and bacteria, the service area was rodent-proofed with wire mesh, polyurethane foam and cement, and gaps around fixtures, piping, wiring and vents were air-sealed. New R-49 batts went in last, and two to four indicator traps were left as a check.

Questions homeowners ask

Attic work in Santa Clara, answered

Who should I get quotes from for attic insulation and air sealing in Santa Clara, CA?

Ask for a quote that seals before it insulates. On this Santa Clara job Atticare USA foamed the gaps along the top plates and around pipes and wiring on a clean deck, then installed new R-49 batts over them across 900 sq ft. See how to compare attic insulation estimates in the Bay Area.

Which Santa Clara companies should I call for attic cleaning and decontamination?

Atticare USA handles both. Here the old insulation came out with a heavy-duty vacuum along with rodent waste, droppings and nests, and OdoBan was applied across the attic to neutralize odors, pheromones and bacteria before any sealing or new insulation. The 5-step process explains the order.

How does Atticare USA rodent-proof an attic in Santa Clara?

By closing the openings at the framing. On this job wire mesh was fixed along the top plates and into the corners, with polyurethane foam around the pipes and wiring that pass through, and two to four indicator traps were left as a check. Where live animals are present, a licensed pest control provider handles that part first. The rodent proofing carries a 1-year warranty.
