The challenge
Insulation hanging loose under the floor
The photos show the old kraft-faced batts sagging out of the joist bays, with loose sections lying on bare soil. Insulation in that position no longer sits against the floor it is meant to insulate.
No rodent activity was found, so this was not a contamination job. It was about rebuilding the crawl space properly, sealing it against future entry, and cutting radiant heat gain from the roof above.

Remove the old insulation
The existing insulation taken out with a heavy-duty vacuum, down to a clear, bare surface.
Clean and sanitize
Dust and debris vacuumed out, then OdoBan sanitation applied across the work area.
Seal and rodent-proof
Preventative rodent proofing: likely entry points closed with wire mesh, polyurethane foam and cement, though no rodent activity was found. Gaps around fixtures, piping, wiring and vents air-sealed in the same pass.
Radiant barrier
A radiant barrier fitted to the underside of the roof deck to block radiant heat gain.
New insulation
New R-19 16in faced Fiberglass Batts and Attic Guard R-13 installed, on a clean, sealed surface rather than on top of the old layer.
Crawl space and vapor barrier
Crawl space cleaned and insulated to the same standard as the attic. A new reinforced vapor and moisture barrier laid over the soil and sealed at the piers and perimeter.
