At 866 sq ft this was a compact Los Angeles attic, but the duct runs crossing it carried old insulation that was torn and dirty. Atticare USA took the attic back to the deck, foamed the gaps along the framing, replaced the air ducts to code at the existing diameters, and laid new R-38 16in fiberglass batts.

The challenge
Torn, dirty insulation around the old duct runs
The inspection photos show the duct runs through the attic wrapped in old yellow insulation, with the outer wrap torn open in places and old material and debris lying over it.
With the ducts in the scope as well, the job started by clearing the attic. That left a clean deck to sanitize, open gaps along the top of the walls to seal, and room to replace the ducts before the new insulation went down.

Debris vacuumed from hard surfaces, then OdoBan sanitation applied to neutralize odors and bacteria.
Seal and rodent-proof
Entry points closed with wire mesh, polyurethane foam and cement, with two to four indicator traps left as a check. Gaps around fixtures, piping, wiring and vents air-sealed in the same pass.
Air duct replacement
Air ducts removed and replaced to code, matching the existing diameters.
New insulation
New R-38 16in Fiberglass Batts installed across 866 sq ft, on a clean, sealed surface rather than on top of the old layer.

Protective floor barriers went down through the work path first. The old insulation came out with a heavy-duty vacuum, OdoBan was applied to neutralize odors, pheromones and bacteria, the service area was rodent-proofed with wire mesh, polyurethane foam and cement, and gaps around fixtures, piping, wiring and vents were air-sealed. Air ducts were removed and replaced to code, matching the existing diameters, and new R-38 16in fiberglass batts went in last. Two to four indicator traps were left as a check.
