Matted old batts under a web of old ducts
The before photos show pink batts gone grey and matted across the attic floor, with old flexible duct runs lying over them. In places, the photos also show debris and droppings in the old material between the joists.
Because the ducts were being replaced as well, none of that could be worked around. The attic was cleared first, so the crew could clean and sanitize the deck, seal the gaps along the plates and around pipes, run the new ducts, and only then lay the batts.

Protective barriers went down through the work path first. The old insulation came out with a heavy-duty vacuum, rodent waste was vacuumed out, OdoBan was applied to neutralize odors, pheromones and bacteria, entry points were sealed with wire mesh, polyurethane foam and cement, and gaps around fixtures, piping, wiring and vents were air-sealed. Air ducts were removed and replaced to code, matching the existing diameters, and new R-38 24in fiberglass batts went in last. Two to four indicator traps were left as a check.
